Facing the next generation of organized crime

Gangs threaten the safety of our streets, schools, prisons, and communities. About one third of state prison inmates are affiliated with the Black Guerilla Family, Maryland’s largest gang, but MS-13, the Bloods, and the Crips have also organized in Maryland. Gangs such as the BGF have hundreds of members and sophisticated infrastructure with comrades, lieutenants, and generals. Gangs also operate and recruit online.

Jon has a record of being tough on crime and gang violence is no exception. In 2007, Jon cosponsored the Maryland Gang Prosecution Act, which prohibits a person from participating in criminal gang activity knowing that the gang members engage in or have engaged in criminal activity such as carjacking, robbery, or homicide. Jon also supported the Safe Schools Act of 2010 to combat gang violence in schools.
